What's On The Workbench? - Khorne Daemons!

Hey guys! Moros here!

I just wanted to drop a line and keep you informed on my progress! As of now Brother C. and I have entered into a blood pact. He is going to finish painting his DA list and I am going to finish painting Ahriman's Renegades by the end of the month. We are both pretty close to our goal! I only have 2 Rhinos, the Land Raider, and 3 Defilers left to go! So wish us luck on that.

Also, the meat and potatoes of this post, the new project I've been working on. My Khorne themed Chaos Daemons army. I am still coming up with some background fluff and whatnot and they are very early stages. I have done a bunch of testing with this list and it works really well versus most conventional gun line type lists. Its a difficult list to play and requires a lot of setting up when playing. Basically have to set the stage for an overwhelming mid-late game assault and pretty much cripple or table the opponent. Here are some WIP shots!!!

Here is what I'm runnin'

There are some inherent weaknesses. Fast armies and armies with high init are going to be a big problem for me. Anybody that has some high mobility firepower is going to do a number on me. The saving grace is the winged princes are great for taking down most vehicles and jetbike type units. Also, I know that if I do get into cc its pretty much going to die!

It's a fun, fluffy list that I am having a total blast building and play-testing. I hope to have the entire army done in a month or two. I only need two more models, the heralds on chariots. I just need to pick up 1 more plastic bloodcrusher pack and the tomb kings chariots from the fantasy line and I'll be all done.

Keep an eye peeled for more on these guys and some back story coming! I haven't forgotten about Ahriman's Renegades! But I just had to do this army!

Let me know what you think, comments appreciated!

The Emperor's Angels Fall from Grace! - Ahriman's Renegades vs Blood Angels

A warp rift opens, through the crackling energy emerges the strike cruiser Veracity.

"The master was correct, as usual." Uttered a powerful voice overseeing the ship's helmsmen. "Prepare the recovery crews, I feel the ancient energies flowing through this place." Ritualistic blue robes, emblazoned with gold runes that pulse with an aura of dark energy shroud his menacing presence. In the daemonic tongue the words upon his robes detail secret pacts and call upon unnameable horrors, beseeching them for protection. The crew spring into action, instantly following his every word to the best of their ability. They are driven by more than fear, the sheer power of the word of Lord Moros is enough.

They are utterly loyal, like all the Thousand Sons, to the end. Even in the face of betrayal from the emperor himself, they remain, loyal to the end.

Possiah, a system with a dark past. Ancient Eldar knowledge tells of temples and libraries on the 4th planet, Gallus. Lord Moros, at the bidding of his Master Ahriman has come. To claim the mysteries of the False Hope sector and bring an end to the traitorous Imperium.

Blue sand and stones on the surface of Possiah begin to leviatate manipluated by an unknown power. The swirling stones break reality with a tearing vortex of color. An instant later, the stones and sand fall and Lord Moros and his Fellowship stand on the surface. "The tides of the great ocean are strong this day." Whispered Moros. As he peered at his surrounding he felt it, a presence, one like his own. The glowing green eye on the head of his ornate staff glanced at him. "What is it? What do you see?" with haste Moros immediately fell into a trance like state, he eyes rolled back into his thick brow and reality melted away from him. The blue barren world was replaced by a myriad of color and light, ever shifting. He was looking into the warp. Cato, his familiar, was wrapped around the head of his staff. His great green eyes were now clearly seen as belonging to a coiled black snake. Cato motioned in the distance, and there Moros saw it. The light of the souls of adeptus astartes. They were dim compared to those of his company, but nonetheless they were present. One light shone far greater than the other, "I see them, thank you my old friend."

The blue surrounding returned as Lord Moros awoke from his trance, to the other Thousand Sons it seemed like the blink of an eye. "Battle formation my brothers, the misguided Angels of the false emperor are upon us."

Dawn approaches. The Angels descend led by Commander Dante. They take up the center of the field with Brother Corbulo's squad of Tactical Marines covering their left flank. Lord Moros and his fellowship's rhino's hold fast at their ambush coordinates. "Just as I had foreseen" chuckled Moros, "Now! Under the cover or darkness bring forth our forces. Unleash the runes of binding!" Sorcerer Duro of the second fellowship gestures his hand and the glowing runes upon the hull of the Defilers dissipate into the light blue air.

The searchlights from the Thousand Sons Land Raider spot Corbulo, they duck for cover but its too late, the Daemonic engines of the defilers spout purple flames and the muzzle blasts of the mighty battle cannons flare. Round after round rains down upon the emperors misguided dogs. Commander Dante's squad of Sanguinary guard are struck by white hot shrapnel and two of the golden clad warriors fall.

At that very moment the scene of carnage seemed to stand still and a white light formed infront of the Thousand Son's battle lines. "There is the disturbance I felt, The Sanguinor!" shouted Moros, "Sehkmet, focus your energies and send him back to the carrion lord!". The doors to the land raider crashed down in a cloud of blue glistening dust. The Sehkmet Termintors unleashed a withering barrage of plasma fire from their combi-bolters. Moros laughed, "Foolishness must run in the geneseed." The charred body of The Sanguinor demoralized the remaining Blood Angels. Their will to fight was broken and the Thousand Sons routed them from the field of now purple sands.

-------------

Hey all! Thanks for reading my narrative report. This was my first battle vs the Blood Angels commanded by SanguinorsWrath here at Lancashire gaming. We were able to get in a quick match last night. The battle was Dawn of war - Annihilation and it was a 2000 point battle.

Wrath used the list he posted a few days ago and I used a new list that I am very pleased with. I think I finally figured out something that might work for my Thousand Sons themed army.

So here it is,

HQ - Lord Moros (Proxy as Ahriman using Ahriman's profile) 250

Elites -
5 Terminators - 190
+Icon of Slaanesh
+5x Combi-weapons
+Land Raider Dedicated (See Below)

Chaos Dreadnought - 100

Defiler - 170

Land Raider - 255
+Daemonic Possesion
+Havoc Launcher

I really like this list cause it bring some serious ranged firepower. In this battle it really came through. I didn't even get to use my dreadnoughts cause I had to keep them away from my main force. The dawn of war deployment made that hard for me so they were basically out of the fight. The Defilers performed amazingly, as did the Terminators. They laid down so much firepower that the sanguinor instantly got destroyed as he moved up mid-field.

My land raider and defiler lascannons sniped his vindicator and rhino. The massive shock and awe of my ranged firepower combined with the sanguinor eating it early on in the game pretty much gave me the psychological victory. Dante, and his terminator squad actually moved away from my battle lines for a turn.

All in all, it was a really fun battle with some really bad luck for Wrath. However, it was my first win in 8 games, with Wrath's first loss. So I don't feel too bad about it :P

I think this game really gave him some stuff to learn as far as positioning goes. The match ended with me getting 3 kill points to his 1. We had to end it on turn 4. But I was about to pick up 3 more kill points and he would have been hard pressed to get any more. Great battle, thanks for having me over!

I'm Excited to show off my newly aquired Sanguinor, Exemplar of the Host, model that was painted and assembled by me. Now I'm new at this, so don't go picking apart my photography skills and the fact that I didn't eveen attempt to base any of my models. I mean come on, The Sanguinor is floating on SCROLLS people. That's pretty BA. The paint job on The Sanguinor is not yet complete though. I have yet to do the fine ddetaails but he still looks good. Warbiker mob!

Hey all! Here is my first attempt at an Ork list! WAAAAAAGHHHh! My thinking with this list is that Ork bikers are awesome! So the more the merrier! The bikerz charge in taking out all they can and absorbing as many hits as they can. The trucks and battle wagon follow up behind them and finish anything off that is left.

The tankbustas are in the battlewagon for anti-vehicle duty. Power Klaws will also help with vehicles.

I think it is a pretty decent list, but then again I am no ork player. I am doing this to help out the Prophet at the club. Gotta get him some wins for the green tide!

If you know something about orks comments would be great!

getting started in 40k - form some strategies

I've recently been pondering how best to help our new members. and I decided to share some of my own experiences from learning to play the game. So.. you purchased a codex and you started to create a list. aka, you picked some really cool guys you think will help you win the match. that's great, most important thing is that you should be playing the army and the units you like; Since there really is no wrong way to start an army.

Now that you have your list, schedule a match. An important thing to do when first starting out is to play matches. Lots of matches. At the club, we allow the new players to use cardboard cutouts to represent their forces for educational purposes. We do not want to turn anyone away from learning the game just because they can't drop the money for all the models right away. We are all about growing and learning as a community, focusing on the teaching side of the game, instead of merely hardcore beat downs. Club members will be more than willing to take you under their wing and play some practice matches till you get the hang of things.

Having said that, we will not go easy on you. Just because you are not playing with a fully painted, modeled army does not mean you can slouch for strategy and sound tactics. Use this as an opportunity to try out units and strategies so you aren't wasting money and time one models you won't field in the end; all along developing your skill and experience in the world of 40k.

(there will another article in the near future detailing how to start an army on a small budget)

Now, the point of all this introduction...

You need to develop strategies for your list. As a player you need to consider all the possibilities you army has and develop a few strategies to use depending what your opponent may field. Some units can outflank, infiltrate, scout, deepstrike, etc. How will those special abilities play into your decisions as the field commander. How many units do you leave in reserve? Do you leave any? Do you leave them all? These decisions are important to think about well before you take the field in a match. As Moros talked about in an article last week, the first 20 matches should be treated as teaching tools. So, I encourage all the new players to use that time wisely, have some strategies to try out, take notes on things that worked and things that failed. Always take into consideration the wrath of the dice gods when hind sight analyzing. (attached above you will find a photo of some of the sketches I used when developing the strategies for my army. I encourage everyone to do something similar. Have a game plan, execute, don't go in blindly, trial and error is the key, but simply throwing units on the field is not going to help you become a better player.

And don't be afraid to ask LOTS of questions to the more experienced players.

Tyranids Comin' at ya!

So I've recently taken it upon myself to help some of our newer members get some wins under their belts at the club. My first task was to help Agni get a new list built for his Tyranids with the new codex and all.

So I read over the codex and came up with this.

HQ - (245)
Hive Tyrant - (245)
+ Old Adversary
+ Armored Shell
+ Adrenal Glands
+ Psychic Scream
+ Paroxysm

Troops - (882)
18 Hormagaunts - (144)
+ 18x Adrenal Glands

18 Hormagaunts - (144)
+ 18x Adrenal Glands

13 Genestealers - (267)
+ Brood lord
+Scything Talons

13 Genestealers - (267)
+ Broodlord
+Scything Talons

6 Ripper Swarms - (60)

Heavy Support - (870)

Carnifex Brood - (510)
3 Carnifexes
+ 3x Adrenal Glands

Mawloc - (180)
+ Adrenal Glands

Mawloc - (180)
+ Adrenal Glands

Not sure how it will work out, But the basic idea is use the hormagaunts and rippers up front as a screen for the rest of the army. They then tie up anything they hit and the genestealers back them up with the killing blow on that unit.

The Mawlocs will strike into the back lines and go for vehicles and critical targets (like template/blast weapons). Then the Fex brood and the Tyrant smash in and finish off anything left.

I think the key is to deploy as close to the enemy as possible and keep everything semi-bunched up around the Tyrant. Not too close so the blast templates don't kill you. The goal is to overwhelm the enemy with close combat.

Comments welcome! Lets get some strategy talk going on for everybody's forces!

40k day

Our first official 40k day is soon approaching. For all those interested in attending; the site will be the House of Moros. Times will be posted soon. (we are working on getting a google calendar and e-vites for future events which will make this process go a whole lot smoother)

As a way to break the ice for our first event we will be hosting a single match open for all players. It will be teams divided equally between present parties. Each participant will deploy a 1000 point army for battle. Teams will be decided by the fortune of the dice. Again, this event will serve as much as a meet-n-greet as an actual battle; as well as an opportunity for some of the more veteran players to introduce and teach the game to the players just starting their armies.

For future events we will be renting space from a local business for mini-afternoon tournies; so check back often for updates on when those will be.

In the upcoming weeks, prepare for updates as I build my own dark angels army list and miniatures. Like Moros, I will be sharing all the nitty gritty details of how to go from codex to conquer; with anything and everything learned in between.

Hope to see you all at our live event on the 6th.
